This year, among the most important museums in Europe Gallery 11/07/95 has found its place, as well. This is a great honor for the Gallery whose aim is to preserve with dignity the memory of the greatest tragedy in Bosnia and Herzegovina – the genocide in Srebrenica.
Under the patronage of the Council of Europe, the European Museum Forum (EMYA) organized the prestigious museum competition EMYA 2016 – a selection of the best European Museum of the Year. Among the 49 museums from 24 European countries Gallery 11/07/95 was also nominated.
This year EMYA program took place from 5 to 9 April in Tolosa and San Sebastian in the Basque region in northern Spain.
Gallery 11/07/95 had the opportunity to present their work, their institution and course of action in front of 200 participants from 29 European countries.
“Gallery 11/07/95 presence on the nominee list for EMYA 2016, represents the opening of the door towards the European museum scene. Two main things that the Gallery received through the nomination for EMYA are the opportunity to present the Gallery 11/07/95 in front of museum and cultural workers in Europe, as well as establishing contacts and cooperation with the other museums”, said Tarik Samarah, founder and director of the Gallery.
Representatives of the Gallery in Spain were Tarik Samarah, director and Anela Hakalovic, program coordinator. In their presentation they emphasized the innovative form of the institution that preserves the memory of the genocide in Srebrenica, the worst crime in Europe since the Holocaust. They pointed out that the Gallery also intervenes in the current historical moment, establishing a connection between what happened in Srebrenica and current historical events.
