In 2025, Gallery 11/07/95 carried out a series of program activities marking the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide. These activities provided a platform for remembrance, dialogue, and addressing past crimes through art and photography. As part of this year’s WARM Festival, in co-production with international partners, two significant exhibitions were presented: Occupied Territories by renowned photojournalist Fabio Bucciarelli at Sarajevo City Hall, and Srebrenica, 30 Years by award winning photographer Damir Šagolj, showcased across multiple locations throughout Sarajevo. These initiatives further strengthened the Gallery’s lasting commitment to nurturing a culture of remembrance through contemporary visual expression.
July 9, 2025 Occupied Territories by Fabio Bucciarelli
The exhibition Occupied Territories by renowned photojournalist and reporter Fabio Bucciarelli was organized in co production with the WARM Festival and Gallery 11/07/95, and in partnership with JP “Sarajevo.” The exhibition was displayed in Sarajevo City Hall. As part of the WARM Festival 2025 program, the exhibition presented photographs taken in Gaza, the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Lebanon. The focus lies on the everyday experience of occupation, beyond the political and military framework, encompassing the distortion of time and space, the uncertainty of checkpoints, and the burden of imposed control.
The images portray scenes of daily survival, loss, resistance, and suffering. The human cost of displacement and ongoing struggle is emphasized in the silences documented in a children’s burn hospital in Beirut and in funeral rituals that escalate into protests in Gaza. The exhibition explores the impact of historical traumas, such as the Nakba (1948) and Naksa (1967), as well as the renewed surge of violence following the Gaza war and fragile truce in Lebanon at the end of 2024, on the lived experiences of communities. Visitors are offered a visual analysis of mental and emotional states where freedom is fragmented, adolescence interrupted, and resistance etched into the everyday landscape. The exhibition, designed by Lejla Hodžić, questions how one speaks, moves, loves, or breathes in a country under occupation.
July 11, 2025 Srebrenica, 30 Years by Damir Šagolj
In cooperation with Gallery 11/07/95, the WARM Foundation, and the University of Sarajevo, an exhibition of photographs by Bosnian award winning photographer Damir Šagolj was jointly organized under the title Srebrenica, 30 Years, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary. The project, co produced with Gallery 11/07/95, which has nurtured a culture of remembrance of the genocide through art and photography for over a decade, forms part of the official commemoration program coordinated by the University of Sarajevo and the WARM Festival 2025.
The first part of the exhibition was installed at Sarajevo’s railway station, at the Srebrenica Genocide Victims Square. Twelve panoramic photographs, each three meters wide, taken at execution sites near Srebrenica, were displayed. These abstract yet evocative images convey silence, vastness, and trauma inscribed in the landscape. Their monumental format brings public space into dialogue with the visual language of remembrance, especially during the commemoration week.
The second part of the exhibition was presented at the Gallery of the Academy of Fine Arts. Around 150 photographs of various formats, taken in and around Srebrenica over three decades, were displayed. Together, they establish a silent and enduring contemplation of remembrance, absence, and violence. In close collaboration with the author, Lejla Hodžić curated and designed both installations, shaping the visual and emotional rhythm of the project.
